We offer free, one-on-one writing support to all students, instructors, staff, and alumni at the UofA – in any subject, discipline, program, or faculty, and at all levels of study and with any type of assignment (research papers, reports, theses, reflections, creative writing, grant proposals, résumés, presentations, articles, etc.). Appointments are booked on our online schedules. You can book up to two appointments per week or drop in during our hours of operation as many times as you like.
The tutors who work at the Centre for Writers are talented University of Alberta graduate and undergraduate students from a variety of faculties and departments who are carefully chosen and specially trained to assist students from all Faculties and departments at any level, with any type of assignment or project, at any stage of the writing process. Our tutors have also received extensive training in helping ESL students.
In the winter semester, we will offer free one-hour workshops throughout the year on a variety of topics designed to improve the writing skills of native and non-native speakers of English. Undergraduate and graduate students, faculty members, staff, visiting scholars, post-docs, and alumni are welcome to attend these workshops. Free food is offered. No registration is required.
Instructors and TAs
The Centre for Writers can send tutors to your classroom for short presentations about our services or for longer presentations on specific writing-related topics. Tutors can also meet with student groups to provide guidance on specific assignments. We can also suggest what C4W information to include in your syllabus and send postcards to distribute to your students. For more information, please visit this page.
